Welcome to the website of the Detroit Unit of the National Association of Parliamentarians. Located in Detroit, our mission is to provide education and leadership growth to the residents of the greater Detroit metropolitan area.
Detroit Unit members have a wide variety of interests and experiences, from members who are just beginning their study of parliamentary procedure to professional parliamentarians who have worked with a number of for-profit and non-profit organizations.
We encourage anyone who would like to learn more about holding effective meetings, serving as an officer of an organization, improving an organization's bylaws, running elections, or other topics to join us at one of our monthly study sessions and to meet our members.
If you would like to learn more about the Detroit Unit click on the Contact us link at the top of the page.
The Detroit Unit meets on the 4th Saturday of each month ( 3rd Saturday in May and December in observance of the holiday season) at 10:00 a.m. at Northwest Activities Center, 18100 Meyers (at Curtis), Detroit, Michigan 48235. (The 3rd Saturday meetings are held at the Greater Grace Charles Ellis III Conference in Detroit). Our meetings include:
1. Educational Programs,
2. Business Meetings, and
3. Parliamentary Roundtables.
During the Roundtable discussions members and guests share challenging deliberations they've encountered in meetings (or, are expecting to encounter in a future meeting) and the group discusses alternatives for handling these sometimes "sticky situations."
Guests are always welcome, we offer "student membership" to community leaders who wish to learn more about Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised (11th edition) and who would like to benefit from member privileges.
To become a member of MSAP you must also belong to the National Association of Parliamentarians. However, anyone interested in parliamentary procedure is welcome to join a local unit as a provisional member. For more information, use our contact form.
We look forward to hearing from you!
